- Abstract
This paper investigates factors in attaining mental health services. Using the Theory of Motivation, Ability, and Opportunity (MAO), a framework consisting of six factors is developed and tested among 254 individuals from Generation Y to Z. This paper also examines the role of health literacy in mediating the relationship between trust and mental health service. This empirical relationship has yet to be established in previous studies. Based on the findings, health literacy enhances trust and improves service utilization by facilitating a better understanding of health information. This paper suggests that improving health literacy may strengthen trust and contribute to improved mental health. Based on these insights, targeted interventions may be developed, and factors impacting mental health service utilization may be better understood.
