- Abstract
This study analyzes the impact of the China-Laos Railway on regional digital innovation using panel data from 29 Chinese provinces from January 2018 to December 2023. The multi-period DID, propensity score matching, and event study analysis demonstrate the railway’s significant positive effect on digital infrastructure development, especially 5G and fiber network expansion. The results indicate digital infrastructure fully mediates the relationship between the railway’s opening and digital innovation growth, supported by robustness checks including placebo tests and sensitivity analyses.
