Abstract

With the rapid development of digital platforms, the influencer economy has become an important force reshaping the tourism landscape. Based on Henri Lefebvre’s theory of spatial production, this paper explores the influence of online platforms (such as Douyin and Xiaohongshu) on the architectural design of rural homestay in multiple aspects including visual, functional, social, economic and sustainability. Taking the rural homestays around Mount Moganshan in Deqing County, Zhejiang Province as an example for research, this paper adopts a mixed approach, combining field investigations and platform content analysis, to explore the design changes driven by the platform. The empirical research results show that the wanghong platform has shifted the design of homestay from local functionality to visual effects and experiential spaces but at the same time, it has also exacerbated ecological and social challenges. This research applies the theory of space production to rural revitalization, providing a design guide for rural revitalization and emphasizing the balance between the commercial development of homestays and the sustainability of their architecture.
