Abstract

Our work involves developing a spatial modeling approach to enhance health- care facility placement within rapidly urbanizing regions through identification of vulnerable zones where health care accessibility lags behind building construction growth. To measure healthcare services in identified zones, the study uses 2.5D time building height data from Google and geocoded healthcare data of Indian urban areas. It uses percentile thresholds of building height data to identify high-rise buildings and roads to measure healthcare services in those areas. The model identifies periurban regions, in which building height increments coincide with a decline in the health care coverage, by aggregating spatial correlation methods and measures of accessibility. Our framework, which has a better quantitative performance than the conventional baseline models, provides useful information to the urban planners, who can utilize it to plan as to how to develop infrastructure as well as to guarantee equitable distribution of resources and sustainable high density urban development. The framework will be made to be expandable, and demographic and socioeconomic data will be integrated into it in the future.
