Abstract

Road accidents have been found to be the major cause of preventable deaths all over the world whereby speed of emergency response is the most crucial aspect of survival. The possibility of survival depends significantly on the delays in sending aid, which are usually caused by the incapacitation of the victims or the lack of witnesses. This project is a direct response to this challenge by creating an automatized system that focuses on closing the time gap that is vital between when an accident happens and the emergency services are notified, so that help will be summoned without delay by the human factor.

The Smart Vehicle Accident Detection and Emergency Alert System that we have proposed is based on ESP32 microcontroller. It uses an MPU6050 accelerator to sense the specific physical shock of a collision at the same time, a Neo-6M GPS receiver records the exact geographic position of the vehicle. The dual channel communication strategy is the innovation of the system. On impact, it automatically sends an alert with the location information in both a SIM800L GSM module in the form of an SMS and via a special Telegram bot through the internet. This redundancy process will provide a sure way of delivering notification to emergency personnel and identified family members in places with inconsistent network coverage.

The preliminary development has been able to confirm the functionality of every hardware component. Future developments will be focused on complete integration of the system, further development of the detection algorithm to reach the highest accuracy and extensive field testing to verify the real performance. The final system will be a viable and relatively affordable framework that digitalizes the essential alert mechanism, and it is likely to make emergency responders much more efficient and save numerous lives.
