Abstract

Computational competence is a fundamental requirement for computer science majors, forming the basis of algorithmic thinking, numerical reasoning, and applied problem-solving. In specialized universities with strong cultural or disciplinary traditions, however, teaching Computational Methods often encounters challenges: students perceive abstract concepts as disconnected from professional practice, engagement is limited, and opportunities for integrating broader educational values are missed. This study introduces an AI-supported reform of the Computational Methods course designed for computer science undergraduates in such a specialized context. Artificial intelligence tools enable adaptive learning, interactive visualization, and intelligent assessment, making abstract concepts more accessible and engaging. At the same time, value-oriented education is embedded into the course, emphasizing craftsmanship, responsibility, ecological awareness, and holistic thinking. Evaluation results show improved academic performance, stronger motivation, and enhanced awareness of interdisciplinary and social responsibilities.
