- Abstract
This research investigates the effectiveness of the Community-Based Reporting and Monitoring Tool for Women Safety in Colleges, addressing the issue of sexual violence among young women as they pursue higher education. Though much progress has been made concerning women empowerment at the college level, sexual violence on college campuses is still a paramount concern in the society. Young women are frequently victims of sexual assault and toned-down forms of nonconsensual action that ranges from touching and fondling to more violent attacks. In this review, we detail the extent of sexual violence suffered by university students, its risk factors, effects, and the long and short-term effects of that violence especially to the female population. Moreover, this study reviews recent implemented activities, such as bystander approach education, increased support for victims within the university, and changes in laws, and analyzes the effectiveness of these activities in preventing assaults on campus. In our tool, we also provide a systematic means of reporting complaints and subsequent monitoring, which allows both the students and the management to report, monitor and take action on cases of abuse. This investigation emphasizes the need for changes especially in prevention and protection plans in order to make college campuses safer and promote responsible citizenship to the members of the college.
