- Abstract
Indian Railways has relied on conventional announcement systems for many years, but the need for a more inclusive solution for passengers who speak only regional languages remains largely unaddressed. This paper presents the development of a real-time translation engine, powered by AI, to translate announcements into regional and international languages, improving accessibility for a wider range of passengers. The goal is to provide a system that offers real-time translation of announcements, using AI-driven speech recognition for accurate transcription and Text-to-Speech (TTS) for audio playback. The methodology integrates Server-Sent Events (SSE) for live updates, AI-based translation APIs for multilingual support, and TTS for clear audio output. A user-friendly website was created with a front-end interface and a back-end server, enabling seamless translation in languages such as Hindi, English, Spanish, French, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, and more. Key findings show that the system efficiently delivers real-time updates, accurate translations, and smooth audio playback. This approach bridges a gap in making railway announcements more accessible to passengers facing language barriers, enhancing the overall travel experience in India.
