- Abstract
GenAI or Generative Artificial Intelligence is a new term in the Artificial Intelligence domain that focuses on machines creating new and original content using Deep Learning Neural Networks. GenAI is now widely used in the field of education as a tool to increase learning productivity since it offers personalized and interactive learning experiences. Well-known applications, including ChatGPT, Dall-E, Bard, Gemini, and Copilot, have been integrated with many applications that contribute to easy access to this technology. The utilization of GenAI in higher education aims to obtain various forms of learning resources and enrich the learning process to improve the quality of education. It is enhancing education through content creation, learning assistants, question-answer generation, automatic grading, research exploration, experiment design, etc. Despite the advanced utilization, the emergence of this technology in higher education, particularly the ethical aspect, must be fully considered. Hence, this research aims to explore the ethical implications of GenAI technology in higher education. The methodology used is an exploratory qualitative study using literature review and thematic analysis that consists of four stages, literature review, data collection, data analysis, results and findings. The findings emphasized the ethical considerations including data ethics, legal aspects, content originality, and ethics of use. Some relevant findings involving GenAI violations, such as plagiarism, fabrication, and falsification, impacting the trustworthiness of education. The results concluded with the intent to raise an alarm of the potential risks of GenAI in higher education, with a focus on the ethical aspects that are crucial to academic integrity.
