Abstract

Green innovation is the critical driving force behand the coordinated development of ecological environment and economy. The article utilizes the panel data of 25 cities located in the typical Yangtze River delta area of East China from 2012 to 2020 as a sample, and employs the Spatial Dubin Model to explore the local effect and spatial spillover effect of green innovation on eco-environmental quality. The findings indicate that the eco-environment status index of cities in East China fluctuates and rises as a whole, but there are significant differences between the cities. Furthermore, it shows obvious spatial aggregation characteristics. There is a remarkably positive spatial spillover effect on eco-environmental quality. Green innovation and the urbanization rate contribute to the enhancement of the eco-environmental quality with conspicuous spatial spillover effects. Population density and industrial structure have significant inhibitory consequences on the ecological environment. Science and technology expenditure is not beneficial for the ecological environment index improvement in the area, while its influence on neighboring regions is insignificant.
