Abstract

This comprehensive study investigates the implementation of a 5S-based hydraulic hose storage system to address significant time inefficiencies in the 789C truck build process at PT. XYZ. Through meticulous analysis of current warehouse practices, we identified that disorganized hose storage contributed to excessive time waste. The research employed a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative time-motion studies, qualitative interviews with key personnel, and thorough 5S assessments. Findings show the storage system lacked organization, causing mechanics to spend more time searching and sorting components. The 5S assessment results showed a score of 3.8, categorized as good. The tidy and disciplined aspects were already optimal, but the sorting aspect remained the lowest, requiring further evaluation to enhance workplace effectiveness. The Hydraulic Hose Storage design, based on the 5S method in the form of a hanger trolley, was developed to improve efficiency, orderli-ness, flexibility, and minimize time waste as well as component distribution errors in the workshop.
