- Abstract
The scientometric approach offers a comprehensive view of global trends in Virtual Reality (VR) research from 2022 to 2024. The rapid advancement of VR technologies and their applications in medicine, education, entertainment, and engineering has contributed to a significant growth in scholarly output. This study analyzes 3,308 publications retrieved from the Web of Science database, using Bibexcel, MS Excel, and VOSviewer for data visualization, trend analysis, and mapping of academic activity. Key scientometric parameters examined include annual growth rate, author productivity, document type, source journals, country-wise distribution, subject-area contributions, and support from funding agencies. Findings reveal that China and the United States lead in VR publications, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy. Journal articles dominate the publication landscape, with engineering and computer science as the most represented fields. The study identifies highly productive authors and highlights core journals such as Applied Sciences-Basel, Virtual Reality, and IEEE Access as central to VR research dissemination. It also explores collaboration networks among funding agency and countries, including Projekt DEAL and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. This research traces the intellectual evolution of VR studies and provides strategic insights for future research and policy development, serving as a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders engaged in the multidisciplinary expansion of Virtual Reality.
