Abstract

The growing demand for food worldwide challenges the modern agriculture sector to meet the increased global food demands while being sustainable toward protecting the environment. The study thus aims at presenting a novel system of real-time soil monitoring based on Internet of Things technologies, Arduino, and Thing Speak. This system will thus optimize the utilization of resources and contribute to the improvement of agricultural productivity through actionable insights in soil health.

This is done using critical measurements taken through the moisture content, temperature, and nutrient in the soil, wherein the Arduino platform connected to a micro controller ESP32 receives the information and transmits them in a reliable and strong manner. The resultant information is then uploaded on a Thing Speak cloud platform which logs, visualizes, and analyzes the data. It thus allows continuous monitoring to have easy access to the soil at remotely accessed times using simple dashboard interfaces for farmers.

This means the trends of data analysis are to be used by the farmer to decide on irrigation schedules, application of fertilizers, and crop management strategies in a manner leading to optimized water usage, lower input costs, and lower environmental impact. This would be an efficient, cost-effective, and easy-to-use integration of the internet of things with a scalable cloud platform that would drive it mainstream for agriculture.
