Essential Genes Classification of DNA Drosophila Melanogaster using CatBoost

Abstract

DNA is the molecule responsible for storing genetic information in living organisms. In DNA there are essential genes that function to store data related to natural components. In this study, we used Drosophila melanogaster as the object of research. DNA contains essential genes that are responsible for critical biological functions. Drosophila melanogaster is also widely used because it has relatively simple genetics but is still quite complex in providing insight into human biology. This research discusses the classification of essential genes in Drosophila melanogaster DNA using the CatBoost method. There are 2 datasets used, Cellular Essential Gene (CEG) and Organismal Essential Gene (OEG). CEG and OEG data will be experimented by comparing the accuracy on data with missing values removed and compared to data with missing values filled. The best results were achieved when missing values were replaced with 25% essential and 75% non-essential data, resulting in an accuracy of 95.4% for CEG and 82.1% for OEG.
