- Abstract
The adoption of the Merdeka curriculum in Indonesia mandates that students should possess the ability to incorporate technology in their education. However, according to the PISA 2022 results, there was a decline in the reading literacy scores. This can be attributed to the students’ reliance on a limited selection of digital educational resources. The objective of this study is to examine the efficiency of digital teaching materials (DTM) that are centered around stories and utilize collaborative learning methods in order to enhance student language skills. This study utilizes an experimental methodology with two groups: a control group and an experimental group. The testing was done using the t-test functionality provided by the SPSS software. The research findings indicated that students who were instructed with digital teaching materials (DTM) achieved positive language skills in comparison to their counterparts who relied on printed textbooks, both prior to and following the examination period. Additionally, the t-test findings provide further evidence, indicating a pre-test score of 4.158, followed by an increase to 5.492 after the test. This demonstrates that the implementation of DTM has been successful in aiding the acquisition of English language skills. This research suggests that when incorporating digital technology into education, educators should focus on incorporating stories. In order to enhance future research, it is advised to incorporate extra factors, such as comprehensive reading proficiency, to guarantee a mutually influential connection between the variables, encompassing both direct and indirect impacts.
