Abstract

The invention of technology has led to some changes in education, and chatbots such as ChatGPT are one of the advancements of technology. The power of ChatGPT improves the teaching and learning process, with teachers having an opportunity to use ChatGPT to increase the effectiveness of their teaching. However, there are limited studies on the use of ChatGPT for teachers, especially at the primary school level. This study examines how primary school teachers perceive the role of ChatGPT in fostering a meaningful learning environment within the classroom and how the pedagogical integration of ChatGPT contributes to developing a dynamic and engaging learning atmosphere for elementary school students. The participants in this study were a school principal, nine teachers, a staff administrator, and two extracurricular teachers at a state elementary school in Sleman Regency in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A descriptive case study design was adopted to portray the participants’ views and experiences using ChatGPT for instructional design. The participants received training in creating instructional material, developing lesson plans, and conducting evaluations. They were also interviewed and required to submit the documents resulting from the training. The participants showed enthusiasm during the training, revealed positive beliefs toward the use of ChatGPT, and produced satisfying instructional teaching materials.
