Abstract

Peer social support plays a crucial role in shaping students’ academic achievement, yet its significance remains underexplored in certain educational contexts. This systematic literature review examines the impact of peer social support on student motivation, cognitive development, and overall academic success. The study employs the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, adhering to PRISMA guidelines, with literature sourced exclusively from Google Scholar. The analysis synthesizes findings from 25 peer-reviewed journal articles, categorizing the impact of peer support into three primary themes: emotional and psychological benefits, cognitive and knowledge-sharing advantages, and behavioral and motivational influences. The results demonstrate that structured peer interactions contribute to higher academic engagement, reduced stress, and enhanced problem-solving skills, reinforcing theories such as Social Learning Theory and Self-Determination Theory. However, the study also highlights challenges, including negative peer influence and cultural variability in peer support effectiveness. Findings suggest that integrating peer support mechanisms into educational policies and curricula can significantly enhance student outcomes. Future research should explore the long-term impact of peer collaboration and the role of digital learning platforms in fostering academic support networks. This study underscores the need for structured peer-based interventions, contributing to a deeper understanding of how social interactions shape educational success and providing valuable insights for educators and policymakers.
