Abstract

This research is a qualitative study aimed at exploring how tolerance education is instilled at SD Ibu Pawiyatan Taman Siswa, Yogyakarta. A qualitative case study method was employed to address this question and to formulate a tolerance education model that could be potentially applied in other schools. The case study method involves detailed observations, interviews, and analysis of educational practices at the school. The Pamong system is a unique educational approach rooted in the Taman Siswa movement founded by Ki Hajar Dewantara. In this system, teachers, play a crucial role as mentors and guides, rather than traditional authoritative figures. The responsibilities of a Pamong include not only delivering academic knowledge but also nurturing moral and social values, such as tolerance, in students. The subjects of this research include the headmaster, teachers, and fourth-grade students. The findings indicate that in this school, teacher teaches tolerance by implementing the Pamong system. This system indirectly serves as a model for teachers to educate students on how to act and behave with tolerance. The key to effective learning through the Pamong system lies in the teacher's ability to function as a Pamong, guiding the learning process and nurturing a culture of tolerance among students.
