- Abstract
During the 1920s to 1940s, early Chinese comedic cinema reached an artistic zenith, profoundly influenced by the introduction of Charlie Chaplin’s comedic philosophies and concurrent societal transformations. This period witnessed significant advancements in comedic techniques, character development, and the exploration of social issues. This paper conducts a comparative analysis of seminal early Chinese comedic films and Chaplin’s works, focusing on the use of misunderstandings, coincidences, and the portrayal of marginalized and women characters, alongside the depth of thematic intentions.
