- Abstract
This paper investigates the Japanese aesthetic expression and social environment reflection in the animated films of Japanese animation director, Satoshi Kon. First, the Japanese aesthetic expression in Kon’s works is explored from three perspectives: traditional Japanese cultural elements, Japanese aesthetics and connotations of colors, and the traditional Japanese aesthetic, mono no aware. Second, the characteristics of his works are analyzed in combination with his life background to shine a light on the fusion of fantasy and reality in his works and probe into the reasons for the formation of this style, the techniques of expression, and the Japanese social environment reflected in his works.
