Abstract

As globalization deepens, cross-cultural exchanges between China and the United States become more frequent, the wide dissemination of culture can deepen the understanding of the country, and many differences exist between the two countries, leading to many problems and challenges. Different countries nurture different cultures. As the old saying goes, “Food is of primary importance to the people.” Diet, as an important part of human life, is taken seriously by each country and different countries have different concepts and habits in food. The different geographical environment of China and the United States makes the two countries produce different agricultural and animal products; the different dietary history of China and the United States makes the two countries have different cutlery and table etiquette. Combined with the existing research results, this paper has some practical significance for the comparative analysis of food culture in both countries. This paper consists of four parts. The author first summarizes the characteristics of Chinese and American food culture. Secondly, it expounds on differences between the two countries in the aspects of table manners, eating habits, eating concepts, etc., then analyze the causes of different aspects, and finally synthesize the above analysis to summarize the relevant views. By studying the differences in food culture, you can not only enrich our cultural habits, but also promote communication and reflect the values of different cultures.
