- Abstract
This study compares the current situation between urban elderly groups and medical welfare provisions in Mainland China and Hong Kong and compares their ageing situations, medical welfare policies and implementation effects. Both regions face severe population ageing, yet they differ in medical resource distribution, welfare schemes and service delivery. Mainland China features unbalanced high-quality medical resources between eastern and western regions, incomplete elderly care talent supply, while Hong Kong encounters long public medical waiting times, financial pressure and cross-border health record sharing barriers. The paper identifies existing shortcomings in current medical welfare systems, and puts forward suggestions including strengthening cross-border policy connectivity, cultivating healthcare professionals, and promoting regional medical cooperation. The research limitations and future research directions are also outlined.
