- Abstract
This study presents numerical modeling of a compound notch configuration integrating an Inverted V-notch and Semi-Circular Gate. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations using FLOW-3D analyzed flow characteristics of conventional notch geometries, including rectangular and triangular notches. Validation against experimental data demonstrated relative errors within ±5%, achieving R2 values of 0.993 and 0.890 for rectangular and triangular notches, respectively. The model was extended to simulate the Compound Notch, which retained the linear proportional head-discharge relationship characteristic of the Inverted V-notch. Scatter plot analysis verified this proportionality with a high R2 value of 0.999. Comparative analysis revealed a significant improvement in the coefficient of discharge (Cd), with the Compound Notch achieving an average Cd of 0.702, outperforming the original Inverted V-Notch.
