Abstract

Objective This study aims to investigate the therapeutic impact and underlying mechanisms of Wuqinxi (WQX) exercise therapy on hip osteoarthritis (HOA).

Methods Sixty patients diagnosed with HOA were randomly allocated into two groups, each comprising 30 patients. The control group received standard conservative treatment, while the observation group underwent traditional conservative treatment supplemented with the inclusion of WQX exercise therapy. WQX is a traditional Chinese physical activity that replicates five distinct animal movements. Both groups participated in a six-minute walk test (6MWT) and a 10-m walk test (10MW) before and after a 12-week treatment. Additionally, visual analog scale (VAS) scores were assessed.

Results Following 12 weeks of treatment, notable improvements in the 6MWT, 10MW, and VAS scores were observed in both groups. Significantly, the observation group demonstrated more substantial improvements compared to the control group (p < 0.05).

Conclusion The integration of conventional conservative treatment with simple WQX exercise therapy proves to be an effective approach for managing hip osteoarthritis. This approach is deserving of wider adoption in clinical practice.
