Abstract

With the refinement of the social division of labour and the rapid development of the vocational field, the importance of career planning education in personal growth and social progress has become increasingly prominent. This paper focuses on the current situation of career planning education at the high school level in China, especially in the context of the new college entrance examination reform, where students are required to choose subject combinations based on their personal interests and career goals. Through analyses at the policy, school, student, and parent levels, the study finds that the current career planning education suffers from uneven distribution of resources, insufficient localisation of curricula, lack of opportunities for career experience and practice, as well as a weak sense of career autonomy among students and parents. Drawing on the mature practical experiences of some cities and countries, this paper puts forward suggestions for optimising career planning education, including systematic education starting from primary school, strengthening practical experiences and localised curriculum design, and raising parents’ and students’ awareness of career planning. The results of this study show that building a comprehensive and practice-oriented career planning education system in primary and secondary schools is of great significance in helping students to make rational decisions, enhance their social adaptability, realise their self-worth, and promote the sustainable development of society.
