Abstract

With the rise of global environmental awareness, policies, and grassroots efforts driving sustainable practices, communities have emerged as a critical domain. China needs to strengthen service design research to promote the comprehensive development of communities. This study complied the literature on sustainable concepts and service design, aiming to integrate existing service design theories and methodological frameworks to construct a service design model applicable to sustainable communities. Grounded in the double diamond model proposed by the design council and aligned with the practical development needs of sustainable communities, this model employs a systematic design thinking process to optimize and enhance community service systems, fostering coordinated development across environmental, cultural, and economic dimensions. This study innovatively introduces the decision-driven methodology into the field of sustainable community service design. By integrating service quality gap theory with the sustainable development objectives evaluation framework, we have established a comprehensive service design evaluation system. The proposed assessment system synthesizes diverse stakeholder needs (including community residents, professional designers, and visitors), achieving dual outcomes: significantly enhancing design solution generation efficiency while developing participatory tools accessible to non-specialists. This innovative research paradigm simultaneously lowers the participation threshold for community revitalization initiatives and provides both theoretical rigor and practical implementation pathways for sustainable community development practices.
