Abstract

Planned Obsolescence is the primary marketing strategy for electronics manufacturers. In today’s time consumers are moving towards eco-friendly products but manufacturers act to be eco-friendly while they indirectly push end users to purchase new product repeatedly, which helps manufacturer to increase revenue and it also increases the waste which results pollution. As end users prioritise short-term over long-term due to (peer pressure, status symbol, innovations, lifestyle) by which product lifetime and sustainability suffer. To understand Indian consumer behaviour on outdated product by connecting with TPB Model and incorporating factor ‘Volitional Inhibition’. A 5 point likert scale survey questionnaire was conducted among 200 respondents. Research hypotheses were tested by using SPSS and Smart-PLS. The findings of planned obsolescence was due to consumers voluntarily go for new products even when their ongoing product still work or can be repaired or reuse. Mediating effect of Volitional Inhibition on consumer behaviour to buy or not to buy.
