- Abstract
This study investigates the independence of Electoral Commission Bodies (KPU) as a key factor in organizing fair elections that adhere to democratic principles. Ensuring that KPUs operate independently is essential for upholding the integrity of general elections. However, this independence is often challenged by various political, institutional, and social dynamics that shape its meaning and practical application. Applying a literature review as the research method, this paper examines a range of studies and theoretical perspectives to provide a nuanced understanding of independence in election management. The findings of this study analyze key theories and empirical research on KPU independence, identifying strengths and limitations in each approach while highlighting relevant insights for strengthening KPU autonomy. Overall, this research contributes to the ongoing discourse on enhancing the quality and resilience of KPU independence, aiming to inform reforms and best practices in election governance globally.
