- Abstract
This paper employs an analytical and observational approach, to examine the shifting performance strategies and overseas reception of Chinese folk music across three historical phases. It explores the transition from early symbolic representations emphasizing exotic spectacle, through a phase focused on empathy and cross-cultural dialogue, to the current digital era characterized by interactive and technologically mediated performances. The study concludes that effective cultural influence relies not on one-way presentation but on dynamic, reciprocal engagement, where performers act as cultural interpreters and collaborative partners. This evolution underscores the importance of integrating technical skill, cultural depth, and technological literacy to foster genuine and lasting global resonance. The research highlights the role of performance as a medium for meaningful cultural exchange and redefines authenticity in a transnational context.
