Abstract

Based on a close consideration of performance practice as a lived, embodied process, what follows engages with the shifting impact of Chinese folk music abroad. Look past just the macro policy and delve into the micro-level factors like instrumental technique, stage presentation, and how we interact with our audiences, stuff that actively impacts the way music is viewed abroad. In the analysis, this analysis is based on some case studies such as the localization of Chinese orchestras in Malaysia and Li Ziqi’s vlogs to show that performance is a kind of trigger for cultural adaptation. The study finds that performance practices cross cultural barriers via local adjustments, technical fusions and the creation of emotional ties, resulting in the transformation that the music goes from superficial appreciation to a deeper involvement. It places a performer under an ethical obligation regarding the preservation of the music’s authenticity and its accessibility as its presence around the globe changes the way it is appreciated. From this perspective, we view cultural transmission in a nuanced fashion that brings the agency of performance into creating sustainability for cross-cultural dialogue.
