Abstract

Agriculture is one of the basic industries that human beings rely on for their survival, providing the necessary food as well as other kinds of products for people’s survival. It is not only the basic pillar of economic development but also provides employment and income opportunities for countless people. As technological innovation accelerates across industries, automated classification systems have become ubiquitous across industrial sectors, which provides strong conditions for the application of visual recognition technology. Despite the significant advantages of machine vision-based sorting systems, they are still not fully popular in the agricultural field and mainly rely on traditional manual sorting. Therefore, the research theme of this paper is to analyse the sorting system, explain the principal knowledge of machine vision technology, and explore its practical application in the agricultural field. By conducting theoretical and case study analyses, the significant advantages of machine vision sorting systems are systematically clarified. Finally, this research establishes a conceptual framework and actionable reference for agricultural sorting automation and inspires future researchers.
