Abstract

Inclusive and sustainable Society 5.0 is an amalgamation of value systems of humans, technology, and sustainability. The objective of this study is to determine whether Maqashid al-Shari’ah may act as the philosophical and ethical foundation for inclusive and sustainable development within Society 5.0 paradigm. This study adopted qualitative methodology and relied on systematic library research. Classical and modern Islamic jurisprudence literature was supplemented by case studies from the digital and sustainable development economy. Results show that Maqashid al-Shari’ah provides a solid moral foundation to foster inclusive and sustainable Society 5.0 by ensuring protection of human rights and creating balance between technological advancement and ethicality. Inclusion is achieved through protection of basic human rights, and sustainability is ensured through maintenance of balance between technological advancement and ethicality as mandated by Islam. Integrating into public and private policies would yield immense benefits in establishing a more balanced and just environment in Indonesia.
