Abstract

Women entrepreneurs often face difficulties in obtaining capital financing, as most of their businesses operate on a small scale, which raises concerns among financial institutions regarding their ability to repay loans. In this context, collateral based micro financing, such as pawnbroking, is an alternative source of funding to support entrepreneurial activities. In Malaysia, there are two types of pawnbroking offers shariah compliant financing that is simple, fast and transparent. This research aims to identify and analyse experts perspectives on the potential transformation of Islamic pawnbroking to support the development of women entrepreneurs. Data were collected through in depth interviews and analysed using NVivo version 14 software. The findings indicate that Islamic pawnbroking has the potential to serve as an alternative financing instrument that can empower women entrepreneurs through easier, more flexible, and Shariah-compliant access to capital, thereby supporting more inclusive community economic development.
