- Abstract
Literature is not only a medium of expression but also a tool to criticize the social order that restricts individual freedom, especially women. This article examines the representation of women’s resistance in the novel Tuhan Izinkan Aku Menjadi Pelacur by Muhidin M. Dahlan and the Novel Perempuan di Titik Nol by Nawa El-Saadawi. Both novels are included in literary works that represent women’s resistance against oppression caused by patriarchal, religious, and cultural systems. This study raises the issue of the forms of resistance carried out by the two female characters in the novels. The relevance of this study lies in its contribution to feminist and gender literary discourse, especially in exploring women’s resistance. The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in the representation of women’s resistance in the two novels. The research method used is a qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of literature studies. The results of this study show that the resistance of the two characters is caused by injustice and oppression that occurred in the past of the two main characters. Both characters carry out resistance with deviant actions to gain the freedom to live in determining their own destiny while providing insight into women’s struggles in facing oppressive norms.
