The Role of Sapta Darma in the Advancement of Culture in Semarang Regency from 2017 to 2024

Abstract

This study examines the active role of Sapta Darma in the advancement of culture in Semarang Regency during the period 2017–2024. As an effort to enhance cultural resilience and contribution, cultural advancement encompasses the protection, development, and utilization of cultural advancement objects. Semarang Regency, with its rich cultural heritage, provides a relevant context for this study. Sapta Darma, with its teachings rooted in the philosophy of memayu hayu bagya bawana, consistently implements these three pillars of cultural advancement. Qualitative research methods with a historical approach, starting from the heuristic process, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of the study show that Sapta Darma Kabupaten Semarang has implemented the three pillars of cultural advancement through various cultural activities. In terms of protection, Sapta Darma maintains and preserves traditions, as well as documents cultural practices. In terms of development, they disseminate local wisdom through art festivals and cultural performances such as wayang kulit (leather puppet shows), dance, and macapat (traditional poetry recitation), which enrich cultural diversity. Meanwhile, in terms of utilization, Sapta Darma uses annual art activities to internalize noble values to build national character. Despite limited resources, the role of Sapta Darma proves that faith-based organizations can be strategic partners in realizing the national cultural advancement agenda, in line with the goal of forming a nation with a cultural identity, independence, and sovereignty. Sapta Darma in Semarang Regency consistently implements the three pillars of cultural advancement.
