This paper explores maintaining the sustainability of collective life through teseng agreements in the Bugis-Makassar Community, South Sulawesi. This paper’s goal is to analyze: (1) the meaning of teseng in Bugis-Makassar community; and (3) teseng as an effort to maintain the sustainability of collective life. This research is empirical legal research conducted by conducting in-depth interviews with respondents. Teseng or tesang is a term used to refer to a profit-sharing arrangement for the Bugis-Makassar community’s agriculture in South Sulawesi Province. This agreement is a mutual agreement that binds both parties, the landowner and the cultivators. The “profit-sharing” system through teseng can improve the sustainability of collective life through agricultural development, accommodating the interests of the parties, increasing the income of cultivators, increasing community prosperity, increasing community awareness and involvement, and increasing the welfare of agricultural landowners.
