- Abstract
The lifestyle of the Baduy customary law community is largely shaped by rules and norms that play a crucial role in their social life, fostering homogeneity in behavior and socio-economic practices. These customs help strengthen their community’s resilience and ensure a continuous and stable way of life. The rules and norms are encapsulated in customary law, which serves as a protective framework for all residents, guiding them in adhering to their rights and obligations. The Baduy Customary Law Community has successfully maintained the integrity of its ancestral land, known as Tanah Ulayat. This achievement exemplifies effective protection and management of customary land, which the state should emulate to safeguard the lands of other customary law communities. The Baduy’s adherence to customary land tenure practices, upheld for generations, serves as a model amid the prevalent issues of land grabbing by various parties and the state for different interests and purposes.
