Abstract

Regional connectivity is vital for ASEAN’s community-building, exemplified by the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT). Focusing on South Sumatra Province, this study explores its strategic role in IMT-GT through key commodities like palm oil, rubber, coffee, and coal. Using Jensen’s (2013) neofunctionalism framework, qualitative research involves interviews with South Sumatra’s Provincial Planning Board and secondary sources. Findings reveal the government’s phased IMT-GT implementation—Task Expansion and Consolidation—addressing challenges while emphasizing sustainability. South Sumatra fosters economic integration and sustainable development, strengthening regional cooperation and aligning economic growth with environmental priorities.
