Abstract

Japanese language training for tourism practitioners in Batubulan Village, Bali, is very much needed. This is particularly important due to the demands and developments in the tourism industry today. Batubulan Village is famous for its dance performances, which are considered the center of Barong and Kecak dance art. Both dances are performed elegantly and magnificently to attract local and international tourists. Survey results and research findings indicate that there are still obstacles to managing tourism potential, particularly in the use of foreign languages by tourism practitioners when serving guests, one of which is a lack of Japanese language proficiency. Japanese language communication skills can be relied upon to promote the tourism icons in Batubulan. With improved Japanese language skills, it is hoped that the quality of tourism practitioners will improve, thereby enhancing the quality of service to visitors (customer service), particularly Japanese tourists, and achieving visitor satisfaction (customer satisfaction). This, in turn, may lead Japanese tourists to feel satisfied and potentially recommend Batubulan to their friends. As a result, this could boost the local economy of Batubulan. The Japanese language learning method used to achieve the goal of being able to communicate in Japanese is the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method, which emphasises communication as the learning objective. This is supported by the continuous practice method, based on Behaviourist Theory, which states that language is learned through repetition, practice, reinforcement, and habit formation. Based on the post-test results, it can be concluded that the training participants demonstrated significant improvement in their Japanese language skills.
