- Abstract
Occupancy rate is a very important calculation in the hospitality industry. With the right occupancy rate calculation, hotel industry players can manage their business to maximize profits. In the hospitality study program, many students have school backgrounds with non-exact majors. Students with non-exact educational backgrounds tend to have difficulty learning to understand basic mathematical operations. Meanwhile, hospitality study program students must have the ability to calculate occupancy rates correctly. To minimize errors in occupancy rate calculations, this study developed a VBA-based macro application for this purpose. This calculation tool has been socialized in business mathematics as a learning medium. With this tool, it is hoped that there will be no errors in calculating the occupancy rate, so that it can manage hotel resources appropriately. This calculation was applied in a business mathematics class, followed by a paired t-test. The results of the paired t-test revealed a significant difference between students’ calculations using manual formulas and those made using applications, with the latter showing slight mistakes.
