- Abstract
This study reports the design and evaluation of an Intensive English Bridging Module (IEBM) for first-semester accounting students, aiming to bridge their transition from General English (GE) to English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Guided by the ADDIE instructional design framework, the module integrates green accounting content and self-directed learning principles via the Canvas LMS. A needs analysis and R&D process involving 92 accounting students informed the development of the module. Post-implementation data (including pre- and post-language tests, LMS analytics, and student surveys) showed that 78% of students improved by at least 20% on targeted ESP tasks, and over 90% endorsed the relevance of the accounting-focused materials and the autonomy-supportive format. These results suggest that a systematically designed, technology-enhanced bridging module can effectively prepare vocational accounting students for specialized English use. Implications and directions for integrating autonomous learning strategies and Canvas-based delivery in ESP curricula are discussed. The outcomes present a replicable digital ESP model that promotes learner autonomy and offers a pedagogical framework adaptable to other vocational programs with similar bridging needs.
