- Abstract
This study investigates the mechanisms through which supply chain technologies (SCTs) drive innovation in manufacturing firms, with a focus on the mediating roles of transformational leadership and entrepreneurial emphasis. Grounded in the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Dynamic Capabilities Theory, the research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing survey data from 350 manufacturing firms in Ghana. Structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the direct and indirect relationships between SCTs, transformational leadership, entrepreneurial emphasis, and innovation. The results reveal that SCTs have a significant direct effect on innovation (β = 0.28, p < 0.001), confirming their role as valuable technological resources. More importantly, the study demonstrates that transformational leadership (β = 0.34, p < 0.001) and entrepreneurial emphasis (β = 0.29, p < 0.001) serve as critical mediating mechanisms, accounting for 27.3% and 19.5% of the variance in innovation, respectively. These findings underscore that SCTs not only enhance innovation directly but also foster leadership capabilities and a culture of entrepreneurship, which in turn drive innovative outcomes. The study contributes to theory by elucidating the “black box” between technology and innovation, highlighting the synergistic roles of leadership and organizational culture. Practically, it offers insights for managers aiming to maximize returns on technology investments by developing transformational leaders and cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset. The research concludes that successful innovation in supply chains requires integrating technological infrastructure with human and cultural capital, providing a holistic framework for achieving competitive advantage in dynamic markets.
