- Abstract
In the automobile manufacturing sector in Pune, India, this study aimed to assess the awareness, adoption & effectiveness of Human Resource Accounting (HRA) practices. Using a mixed-method approach, data from 217 professionals in 14 Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) were retrieved from a mix of functional domains. There is a gap between theoretical awareness (52%) and practical adoption (35%) of HRA, as revealed in the study. The biggest influencer behind successful adoption is executive leadership and the relationship between these two outcomes was strongest with C-suite support and HRA maturity (0.72). The Balanced Scorecard model scored top marks (7.1/10) but revealed several technological gaps — with over-reliance on Excel (40% usage) as a prominent barrier — and the absence of standardized metrics as a key roadblock. In Pune, the auto sector (58%) still trails the global industry average (72%) according to the study. Governance led by the executives, modernizing the technology of HRA, developing a hybrid measurement framework that can be applied to the industry and benchmarking of industry to enhance the competitiveness and strategic decisions are some of the recommendations that ought to be made.
