- Abstract
The title of this study, which is “Information Literacy Using Social Media Tools: A Study of the Provincialized Colleges in Kamrup Metro District”, focuses on understanding the implementation of social media tools towards improving information literacy among the LIS professiona of provincialized colleges. The rise of digital platforms has made social media a key material for academic learning, research and collaboration. Measuring the net effectiveness of social media as a tool for promoting information literacy has been an ongoing debate, and it has previously been suggested that the information landscape that is developed as a result of social media may have certain drawbacks, including the prevalence of misinformation, the absence of critical evaluation skills, and limited training. Through both surveys and interviews, this research utilizes a mixed-methods approach to examine LIS professionals use of social media tools, barriers to use and effectiveness of social media tools for cultivating information literacy. This highlights the potential of social media tools to promote academics but stresses the need for structure in teaching LIS professionals how to use social media tools effectively and responsibly. It offers guidance to educators and academic institutions that want to include social media in their teaching, with the goal of helping LIS professionals learn information literacy skills and also deal with the negative aspects of social media, such as misinformation and distractions.
