- Abstract
In the digital era, identity is very important to protect because it is a representation of a person in an electronic system. Along with the development of information technology, this type of crime is also developing along with the emergence of cybercrime. One type of cybercrime that threatens a person’s identity is identity theft. Identity theft is a new type of crime. However, the impact of this crime has had a massive impact, especially in the banking sector. Basically, Identity Theft does not have a direct impact, because the victim does not lose anything. New losses will be felt when personal data is used to commit crimes. This crime always haunts us when surfing in cyberspace. Many criminals target identity as the key to accessing someone’s accounts such as bank accounts, credit cards, and other accounts. This crime is a serious threat in the digital era, especially in Indonesia. This is caused by a lack of awareness among citizens in protecting their identity and the existence of inadequate laws in providing protection. This situation certainly poses a threat to strengthening civil society in the digital era.
