- Abstract
This study aims to analyze the impact of deregulation of railway laws on the creation of a healthy transportation market in Indonesia, focusing on the dominant position of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI). As the entity that controls most of the railway infrastructure and operations, PT KAI plays a central role in the sector. Although existing regulations are intended to ensure stability and efficiency, PT KAI’s dominance is often an impediment to fair competition. Through a qualitative approach, this study evaluates the potential of deregulation in opening market access for new businesses, encouraging innovation, and improving service quality and efficiency. The results show that proper deregulation can create a fairer competitive environment, improve service quality, and lower tariffs for consumers. However, deregulation also presents challenges, including the risk of safety lapses and the potential for new monopolies. Therefore, the implementation of deregulation needs to be accompanied by strict oversight and supporting regulations to ensure the achievement of a competitive and sustainable transportation market in Indonesia.
