Abstract

Historiopreneurship combines the practice of writing history with entrepreneurship. This abstract narrates how historiopreneurship has emerged and explored its possibilities from its nascent forms of leveraging historical records for commerce to present day enterprises that capitalize on digital technologies and global connectivity. Its insight reach into historiopreneurship shows early collaborative points between historians and entrepreneurs to co-create wealth-generating opportunities. Such opportunities included the first inventions of museums, arranging historical tours, and publishing books and media on historically relevant topics. These initiatives often served a public education purpose, emerging from that play to generate income and better preserve history while making a profit. For instance, archival research, news-type storytelling, as well as newer multimedia platforms adopted by early historiopreneurs are discussed. The impact of advancement through the printing press and later digital media in terms of extent and reach was one bright aspect of historical entrepreneurship. The opportunities that VR, AR, and AI create for immersive and interactive historical experiences that educate and entertain in new ways would create new windows for such appeals for broader and diverse audiences, in the developed part of this abstract. The synergy between historiopreneurship’s past development and its futuristic aspirations is thus further explained here, with reference to its past accomplishments and future opportunities. The potentialities within the discipline to inspire innovation towards soon-to-replace states of technological change and societal needs indeed bring it within the fold of the contemporary discourse on historical scholarship and entrepreneurial action. Thus, historiopreneurship becomes a potential toolkit for the preservation and promotion of history while enriching cultural and economic landscapes.
