- Abstract
In teaching English as a foreign language, the majority of Indonesian institutions rely on traditional approaches towards grammar in which grammatical rules are taught to students directly from the textbook, and in return, students are required to complete a number of activities to showcase their understanding and application of such rules. There is a lack of ascertaining students’ understanding by having them question the grammar material. The present study is an attempt to elicit students’ questions using Google Applications, namely Google Docs and Google Forms for the purpose of finding out the students’ difficulties in learning grammar. The data were taken from 40 EFL students enrolled in a private university in Indonesia who are learning EFL grammar. The findings suggest that students put effort to use English as the medium of inquiry when posing questions in Google Form and Google Docs. Further, in the process of questioning, students’ questions were basically dominated by the category of understanding and analyzing rather than higher-order questioning such as evaluating or creating. Moreover, the results indicate that Google-based platforms can serve as a benevolent place that encourages students to pose questions in a restrained environment.
