Economic Generation Optimization of Thermal Power Plants in the 500 kV Java-Bali Power System Using Ant Lion Optimizer

Abstract

Electrical energy is a fundamental need that must be met sustainably and economically. In Indonesia, most power plants use non-renewable fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. The use of these fossil fuels leads to high electricity production costs, so optimization is needed to reduce operational costs without sacrificing reliable energy supply. This research aims to optimize economic generation in the 500 kV Java-Bali electricity system using the Ant Lion Optimizer (ALO) method. ALO is a metaheuristic algorithm inspired by the behavior of moths in capturing ants. This algorithm is used to find the optimal solution in the economic load distribution (economic dispatch) problem. Simulations were conducted using load data and generator characteristics as inputs. The results showed that the ALO method was able to reduce total fuel costs by 12.71%, resulting in savings of Rp 5,988,537,577.64 in 24 hours of operation. In conclusion, the ALO method proved to be effective in minimizing the operational costs of power plants in the 500 kV Java-Bali electricity system, providing a more efficient solution in economic load distribution.
