- Abstract
This study focuses on the transformative power of cinematic language and sound design in feminist filmmaking, examining how they combine to challenge patriarchal representation and reconstruct women’s subjectivity. Moving beyond merely analyzing narratives and themes, it explores several visual cinematic techniques, including shot compositions, camera movements, and coloration, and audio techniques, including songs and sound effects. Furthermore, Through several literature reviews and thorough analysis of famous feminist movies, such as Girls on Wire (2025), Thelma & Loise (1991), and Suffragette (2015). These scene analyses and theoretical reviews reveal that feminist filmmakers successfully subvert Hollywood conventions by emphasizing emotional depth, conveying personal agency, or disembodying patriarchal controls. Thus, they created new possibilities for gender representation and character development, allowing for more fluid, diverse, and agency-driven portrayals that move beyond binary stereotypes and conventional character arcs. Although films have become a powerful tool to achieve gender equality, future research should expand this framework to the intersectional and global context, thus further improving feminist media aesthetics and inclusivity.
